Understanding the Tag and Trigger
A tag and a trigger are required for every interaction you want to track. If you want to use Google Analytics 4 to track all form submissions, you’ll need to establish a Google Analytics Tag and a Trigger (rule) for when the tag should fire.
Enabling the Submission Tracking
Form Submission Tracking must be enabled on your forms for this to work, so if you haven’t done so already, do so now before continuing. It should track the relevant data present on the forms.
Capturing Relevant Data from the Forms
Although we cannot submit any personally identifiable information to Google Analytics, such as a person’s name or email address. However, we can send any other information collected through this form.
Inspection of the Data Layer and Triggers Variable
The form will fill in certain variables that are automatic as a result of the trigger.
We can see that our form element, classes, ID, Target, and other variables have been filled with data if we go to the variable menu.
Pulling Out Form Field Value
Now, you should make a new user-defined variable. For your business size, this will be a data Layer variable. And, as the setups dictate, pick our data Layer variable right here.
Working with the Google Tag Manager
Let’s take a look at Google Analytics to check if there’s a new Form Submit. If we go to the form category, we can see that Contact Us is now a medium-sized company. This is how; you can analyze the field form.
Segmentation of the Data Layer
You could always add a segment here and then make your segment that looks at the events that only have the label tiny business size, for example, if you decide to segment the data later to only look at one of the other business sizes.
